The Chaser's War On Everything

posted by John Surname @ 11:19 PM
So The Chaser returned tonight, and did anyone else think it was....tired?

They have been doing the same stunt shtick for 7 years now and it really is starting to feel a little stale, ironically, as they are starting to pick up more mainstream attention and success, having been moved to a new timeslot. My 16 year old sister lyk OMG finks it iz lyk da funniest show EVA n all her frenz at skool watch it. She doesn't get many political and topical jokes, but Craig is cute.

Anyway, The Crazy Warehouse Guy is from last year, the audience jokes were a re-hash from the second series of CNNNN, the current affairs stamp jokes were rehashed from the first series of CNNNN, and the fake polls were rehashed from their very first series the Election Chaser.

As someone whose been a fan since the first Election Chaser, I was looking forward to this, but as soon as I saw that it was merely the same style of stuff as we've seen before I must admit I got a little bored. What was so fresh and exciting (gatecrashing press conferences) is now getting tired. It doesn't help that everyone now knows who they are, either. It showed when Craig turned up at a press conference only to be recognised and have all the microphones shoved in his face.

It's still the best Australian comedy on TV, but I wish they'd freshen it up a bit.

UPDATE: Oh, look, they've made the headlines. It must be hard to be funny when your joke is splashed across the front page before the show airs. In other news, Ken Parish has linked us over at Club Troppo. Normally I don't write about it when he does, but he's stuck us in the "Mad" section again! Am I detecting some hostility? ;) To my surprise they have actually moved it. How about that? We are offically not mad!
